ABS Appoints Grove President and Chief Operating Officer for Pacific Division

ABS announces the appointment of Todd Grove to the position of President and Chief Operating Officer of the society’s Pacific Division. Previously Chief of Staff at the classification society’s Corporate headquarters in Houston, Grove is relocating to the Pacific Division’s principal office in Singapore. With more than 1,000 employees, the Pacific Division is the largest of the three operational and administrative divisions within ABS.

HIGH SEDIMENT FUELS IN BARCELONA, SPAIN

DNV Petroleum Services has tested 6 samples from Barcelona with sediment content exceeding the maximum Total Sediment Potential (TSP) level of 0.10% m/m specified in ISO 8217:2005. The levels varied between 0.11% m/m and 0.19% m/m. The fuels were bunkered between 4th August and 13th August 2008 and there was one supplier involved.

Bodies were found floating inside a capsized ferry in the Philippines Tuesday as rescuers dove into turbulent seas in a desperate search for hundreds of missing in one of the country’s worst maritime accidents. “Most of the bodies were floating inside,” Navy spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Edgard Arevalo said. “They were trapped when the ship suddenly tilted and capsized.”
