PORT DESCRIPTION
Location: A small subport of Canea, lying to the north on the NW coast of Crete. Suda (or
Souda) Bay is a natural harbour and considered a safe anchorage.

Upon arrival (arrival formalities), ship’s certificates according to the Int’l Law
& Conventions, should be presented to the Port Authorities.
ETA: Agents and Port Authorities should be kept well informed about the vessel’s
estimated time of arrival basis Souda Bay entrance.
PILOTAGE
Pilots are available. Can be arranged by your local Agent or call Souda Harbour Control on
VHF channel 12. Pilots embark 1 mile after the entrance, in the Bay, on the way through
the unmarked navigation channel which leads to the port.
ANCHORAGE
Safe anchorage area off port of Souda and in Souda Bay (Ormos Souda) according to the Port
Authority/Pilots instructions. Vessels can use an anchorage area off Souda Bay (Ormos
Kalyves).
RESTRICTIONS
Permission to enter/leave Souda Bay after sunset is given by the Souda Bay Port Control
through the 4 miles unmarked navigation Channel, which leads to the harbor.
MAX. SIZE
No restrictions for anchoring/berthing.
HEALTH
Pratique is compulsory for all ships coming from ports outside Greece, except EEC
ports.
RADIO
Athens Radio SVA.
VHF: Souda Bay Port Control on VHF channel 12 and or 16. Souda Harbor Control on VHF
channel 12.
RADAR: None
TUGS: None but are expected soon. On emergency cases Naval Base tugs can be used.

area A2 = 7,20 m. Depths are at lowest low water. Works for deepening the
seabed are expected to commence the soonest possible.
