PORT DESCRIPTION
Location: Igoumenitsa is located on the E side of the Corfu channel in Igoumenitsis Bay.
General overview: The town is an important ferry terminal and a tourist centre.
The port handles approx 100 vessels annually.
NAVIGATION
Sea buoy, fairways and channels: Igoumenitsis Bay is approached between Akra Gonia (Lat
39°29.6’N, Long 020°12.8’E) and Akra Vatatsa (approx 3nm NW). The bay is entered
through a channel which is dredged to 7.9m.
The dredged entrance channel across the bar between Nisis Ayios Dhionisios (Lat
39°29.7’N, Long 020°12.8’E) and Akra Dhrepanon (approx 8 cables NNE) is marked by 4
pairs of lightbuoys. The direction of the axis of the channel is 101°/281° with a length
of 1,850m and 100m in width. The deepest water is found by keeping close to the S shore.
Simultaneous passage of vessels in opposite directions in the entrance channel is
forbidden. Movement instructions are given by the harbour master.
Anchorages: Anchorage can be found off Igoumenitsa customs house in depths of 16-26m, mud.

BERTHING INFORMATION
BERTHS AND CARGO
Names/Nos: A mole extends SW from the shore, the W side has a length of 125m with depths
of approx 7.0m. The E side is 100m in length with depths of approx 5.8m. This is used by
ferries.
A jetty extends W from the shore approx 2 cables S of the mole. The N side is 120m in
length with depths of 8.4-10.0m. The W side is 120m in length with an inclined ramp over
its full length, depths off the ramp are 8.7-9.5m. The S side is quayed but has only
shallow water alongside.
A further quay, extends 120m SE from the root of the mole, then 360m S and SSW to the root
of the jetty. It has an inclined ramp near its centre with depths of 3.0-6.0m alongside
the quay.
A small oil pier is situated in front of the oil installation at Ae Aktis (Lat
39°29.1’N, Long 020°15.3’E) in the SE corner of Igoumenitsis Bay.
A small 'T'-shaped cement pier, used for handling cement, is located in front of a cement
factory approx 3 cables NNW of the oil pier. There are depths of 8.3-9.0m at the pierhead.
