Port State Control: 12 October 2009
Monday, 09.14.2009, 07:17pm (GMT)

In connection with our training courses which have been scheduled for the 3rd tertiary 2009, we are pleased to announce as follows:
Port State Control: 12 October 2009
Location          :  DNV Piraeus, Akti Kondili 26-28 Piraeus
Timeschedule      : 09.00hrs -17.00hrs
Deadline for registrations: 30th September 2009

Port State Control (PSC) is increasingly active on a world-wide basis in meeting their commitment
to combat against sub-standard shipping. They will continue to take measures to improve and
enhance PSC activities, to ensure compliance with applicable requirements for safety, pollution
prevention and manning conditions on board. Several ships are detained and cannot leave the port
until reported serious/detainable deficiencies have been rectified. This of course implies possible
delay and financial losses to the ship operators.
In addition, detained ships are made public on the web and in the press resulting in loss of
reputation for all parties involved. Multiple detentions will have a severe impact on the ability of a
ship and its company to trade unhindered.

Is your company/staff ready to meet the PSC challenge?

These are some of the issues to be covered during the "Port State Control” training course,
which will be delivered at the DNV Piraeus premises as follows:

Superintendents and shipboard personnel involved in ship management, operation,
maintenance, inspection and control.

A newly developed PSC Tool Kit will be offered free of charge during the course to
each delegate.
DNV has produced a great tool kit to enhance shipowners’ preparations for a
port state control examination and to provide additional support to the Master
should a vessel be detained.

The PSC tool kit consists of a number of elements, including new software,
developed to assist the crew onboard, with “what to look for” items, with
pictures and checklists that can be printed and other useful features which
promote awareness and crew education with reference to the most commonly
found detainable items and “good” and “bad” practices.

The course instructors are:
4 Mrs Niki Ioannidou-Mowinckel, DNV’s PSC Liaison from Head Office - Oslo &
4 Mr Dimitrios Protopsaltis, Principal Surveyor from DNV Piraeus.

540 EURO/delegate
