In connection with our training courses which have been scheduled for the 3rd tertiary 2009, we are pleased to announce as follows:

The International Labour Organisation has adopted the Maritime Labour Convention. Upon entry into force all ships coming within the scope of the Convention and being above 500 tons in international trade must have a Maritime Labour Certificate (with a Document of Maritime Labour Compliance attached) documenting compliance with requirements.
In addition companies will have to develop measures and procedures for ongoing compliance and continuous improvement (in a Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance) as required in the Convention.

These are some of the issues to be covered during the "Maritime Labour Convention” (MLC)
training course, which will be delivered at the DNV Piraeus premises as follows:

Who should attend:
Personnel in Safety & Quality, Personnel and Crewing Departments of Shipping Companies, shipboard personnel involved in ship management, operation, maintenance, inspection and control and people working in crew manning offices.

Objectives:
The participants will obtain knowledge and enhance their understanding on the Maritime Labour Convention and the way it functions, with a special focus on development of the Declaration of Maritime Labour Compliance (DMLC). Give participants a good starting point for evaluating how to handle, prepare for and implement Convention requirements.

Key issues covered:
- Background and Scope of the MLC
- Minimum requirements for seafarers to work on a ship
- Conditions of employment
- Accommodation and recreational facilities
- Food and catering
- Health protection, medical care, welfare and social security
- Complaint Handling
- Compliance and enforcement with a special focus on the Declaration of Maritime Labour

Compliance (containing the shipowners’ measures/procedures for ongoing compliance with Convention requirements)

Teaching Method:
- Lectures/presentations
- Group work
- Information:
- Course presentation will be in Greek if no foreign participants, however the material will be in the English language.
- A full set of course materials will be given to the participants in order to enhance the lessons learnt during the sessions.
- Upon successful course completion, the participant is awarded with a Certificate of Training.
