Revised MARPOL Annex VI

The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has published a revised Marpol Annex VI concerning the reduction of harmful emissions from ships. In order to provide a guideline to the new Annex VI for our clients, DNV is offering a new brochure “Regulation for the prevention of Air Pollution from ship- Technical and Operational Implications”

Pipeline interventions are key procedures for onshore and offshore installations and include operations such as repair of pipeline defects, removal of internal blockages and addition of pipe branch connections. One of GL's most innovative technologies for pipeline intervention, the so-called "Grouted Tee", introduces an intelligent mechanical method to connect an off-take or tee to an existing flow line.

Hull Lifecycle Programme Thickness Measurements

The condition of structural components is regularly monitored through class surveys, statutory surveys and ship owner's surveys, assessing thickness and other relevant criteria such as cracks, coating and anode condition. Up to now, this has been a time consuming and error-prone process. GL's Hull Lifecycle Programme helps to monitor and assess ship structures during the entire lifecycle.

Main changes coming into force 1 January 2008
- Sec.1 General Requirements
— Items A203, A602 and A604 have been amended to align with IACS UR Z7/7.1/7.2/10.1-10.5.
  Sec.2 Annual Surveys Extent - Main Class
— A new item C306, concerning nitrogen control system for insulation and interbarrier spaces, has been added in order to align with IACS UR Z16 Rev. 2.

57th Session (31 March – 4 April 2008)
The MEPC 57 Update provides in-depth information on regulatory developments agreed during the 57th Session of the Marine Environment Protection Committee that was concluded on 4 April 2008. Of significance are the approved emission standards, revisions to MARPOL Annex VI and new approvals granted to several ballast water treatment systems. The draft Ship Recycling Convention was further developed and it is expected to be completed at MEPC 58 in October pursuant to the holding of a diplomatic conference in May 2009 in Hong Kong. MEPC continued its work to identify and develop possible mechanisms and approaches to limit or reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions (GHG) from new and existing ships. Download from Infomarine Server
